Shawnee Mission Education Foundation excels in national study of K-12 educational foundations
(Nov. 19, 2015) – The nation’s only annual study and ranking of K-12 education foundations, “Stepping Up: The Top K-12 Education Foundations in the Nation,” has ranked Shawnee Mission Education Foundation fourth in its division and forty-second in the nation. The study includes education foundations in the top 200 largest school districts in the nation (by student population), as well as other top-performing foundations in smaller school districts. The Shawnee Mission community is generous in its support of public education, and the Foundation's job is to keep growing that support for the next generation of students." said Dean Davison, President of Board at Shawnee Mission Education Foundation. This is the first time a Kansas public school foundation has been included and the Shawnee Mission Education Foundation is proud to be the only Foundation in the metro area that made the list. #proudtobeSMSD at the 2015 Fall Breakfast
"The future is looking good. No, let's make that great!" Words spoken by Dr. Jim Hinson, Superintendent, to kickoff the 2015 Fall Breakfast.
Shawnee Mission has a lot to be excited about this year. Dr. Hinson announced the increase in student enrollment is the largest since 1992. The district is completing projects begun last year in response to community input: increased safety and security measures, successful re-introduction of middle school sports, completion of the 1:1 digital initiative, now in all schools. Thanks to community support of the bond initiative the district is breaking ground on new facilities.
Dr. Hinson interviewed Lexie Allen and Erin Smith, two award winning students in our Biotechnology Signature Program, to showcase the outstanding research being done by students with the support of business and research partnerships.
Dr. Jim Hinson's final words to the sold out crowd at 2015 Fall Breakfast were, "Will you make a difference? Our kids deserve it!" He declared our charge is simply to be the best! #proudtobeSMSD
